By the Glass: A Guided Tasting Evening at Opal Wines
By the Glass: A Guided Tasting Evening at Opal Wines
Last week, we hosted a guided tasting at the bar — a quieter kind of event, built around a small group, a short flight of wines, and plenty of time to talk.
The evening focused on contrast rather than comparison. A bright white poured alongside a skin-contact wine. A light red next to something deeper and slower. Each glass chosen to show how differently wine can behave depending on place, method, and moment.
Rather than a formal tasting, the night unfolded as a conversation. Bottles were opened, questions asked, impressions shared. Some guests arrived knowing exactly what they liked; others were simply curious. Both felt equally at home.
Alongside wines from independent producers across Europe, we poured one of our Opal Wines house bottlings — offering a closer look at how our own wines fit within the wider natural landscape we love.
These tastings are something we’ll return to often. Small groups, shifting themes, and no pressure to “get it right” — just an opportunity to slow down and notice what’s in the glass.
Details of future tastings will be shared soon.
Until then, the bar is always open.
