Opal Wine takes its name — and its way of seeing — from a passage in Travels with Charley. Waking to a new morning, Steinbeck writes:
“The sun was up when I awakened and the world was remade and shining. There are as many worlds as there are kinds of days, and as an opal changes its colours and its fire to match the nature of the days — so do I.”
That idea sits at the heart of Opal.
That things change. That meaning is shaped by light, by time, by who you’re with.
Wine, we think, works the same way. A bottle opens differently on different nights. A glass tastes brighter, softer, deeper depending on the moment around it. Like an opal catching colour, wine reflects the day you bring to it.
Opal Wine is a wine bar built for those moments. We focus on natural, low-intervention wines from small producers — growers who work with the land rather than against it. Alongside a rotating list from independent wineries, we occasionally pour wines from our own label, Opal Wines, made in small batches and shaped by season and place.
This is a space for slowing down. For shared tables, simple food, and bottles opened with intention. A place to notice the evening as it unfolds.
